Struktur und Biosynthese

Am ABO locus (Chromosom 9) determiniert.
-Dieser enthält ein genetische Information für ein zuckerübertragendes Enzym (Glykosyltransferase).
-> Es gibt verschiedene allelische Varianten (sog Allozyme):
        -Inaktiv: Gruppe 0 oder H
        -Alpha-Galaktose: Blutgruppe A
        - Alpha-N-acetylgalaktosamin: Blutgruppe A
Die Allozyme übertragen es auf ein nicht antigenes Glycan.
