Letzte Woche waren wir auf der ATEC, der Aachen Technology Entrepreneurship Conference, auf dem Schloss Rahe. Bzw. auf dem parallel stattfindenden BA-Tag (Business Angel Tag). Und heute waren wir auf dem European Venture Summit in Düsseldorf. Als wir mit CoboCards anfingen, hatten wir nicht gedacht, dass wir irgendwann einmal auf solchen Events sein werden, sind es jetzt aber doch. Der start2grow Gewinn wird da sicherlich einiges zu beigetragen haben.
Auf beiden Events haben wir in kurzen zehn Minuten Präsentation unsere Visionen und konkreten Pläne für CoboCards präsentiert. In einem Satz lautet das: CoboCards zum besten und weltweit meist eingesetzten Tool für „Microcontent Learning“ zu machen mit dem Geschäftsmodell des abobasierten Freemium Konzepts.
Der BA-Tag war von potentiellen Business Angels leider nicht so gut besucht. Daher haben sich danach eher wenig interessante Gespräche entwickelt. Auf dem Venture Summit in Düsseldorf konnte man 15-Mintuten One2One Gespräche mit den Venture Firmen ausmachen um sein Standing und die Möglichkeiten auszuloten.
Unser Fazit:
Business Angel Veranstaltungen können interessant sein, wenn genug interessante Businessangels dabei sind, was bisher nicht wirklich der Fall war.
Auf Venture Capital Veranstaltungen will die eine Seite Millionenerträge sehen und die andere Seite muss deshalb mit Millionen Beträgen protzen um überhaupt Aufmerksamkeit erzeugen zu können. Dabei haben wir einfach gemerkt, dass das nicht unsere Zahlenwelt ist. Deshalb werden wir in Zukunft Venture Capital Veranstaltungen wohl nicht mehr besuchen.
Sollte aber ein Business Angel dies hier lesen und interessiert sein, einem jungen dynamischen Team helfen zu wollen, soll er sich doch einfach bei uns melden 🙂
Last week we participated at ATEC (Aachen Technology Entrepreneurship Conference). The venue took place in a cool location, the castle of Rahe. At the same time the Business Angel Day was hold, so we could present CoboCards to potential investors. Yesterday we were at the European Venture Summit in Düsseldorf. When we started with CoboCards we didn’t imagine being part of such events. But we were. I guess winning the start2grow award was a door-opener.
In both events we have done a short presentation about our vision and our concrete plans for the future. In one sentence: To become the most common tool for “microcontent learning” based on the Freemium business model concept.
Unfortunately, there weren’t enough business angels at the BA-Day. Hence, only a few interesting chats. At the EVS we had the possibility to arrange 1-to-1’s with venture capitalists to figure out potential funding.
Our conclusion:
Events with business angels could be worth to go if there are enough interested business angels. This was not the case until now though. On events with venture capitalists there are those who want to get millions for their investments and those who show off with millions of revenues just to get attention. We have realised that this is aloof from our world. Most probably we will not participate at VC events anymore.
Should a business angel read this and be interested in supporting a young, dynamic team, he could drop us a line though 🙂
Because some of our users did not know if it is allowed to publish flashcards in the Pool and make them available for everyone, we created a new wiki-page regarding „Copyright“.
But due the fact that the majority of our users are from Germany, it is an abstract about
a) what is allowed and
b) what’s not allowed

Der Internet Explorer 6 von Microsoft ist für jeden Internet-Entwickler das Grauen schlechthin. Microsoft selbst ist im eigens geschaffenen Teufelskreis gefangen. Wieso?
Warum der Internet Explorer für Webgestalter ein Albtraum ist
Soweit zur ganzen Geschichte. Was das für CoboCards bedeutet:
Einen ca. 8 Jahre alten Browser zu unterstützen bedeutet Arbeit. Einen Internet Explorer 6 zu unterstützen bedeutet noch viel mehr Arbeit. Für diese Arbeit muss man sehr viel Zeit investieren. Zeit, die an anderen Stellen wesentlich sinnvoller eingesetzt wäre.
Deswegen werden wir den Internet Explorer 6 offiziell nicht mehr unterstützen, um effizienter, kostengünstiger und technologisch aktueller CoboCards weiterentwickeln zu können.
Das Webgrößen wie YouTube oder Facebook bereits ihren IE6 Support eingestellt haben zeigt, dass dieser Weg nichts ungewöhnliches ist.
Wir empfehlen daher allen CoboCards-Usern, die noch den Internet Explorer 6 benutzen, eine der folgenden Möglichkeiten:
- Umstieg auf Firefox, Opera, Safari oder Google Chrome.
- Upgrade auf Internet Explorer 8
Wir bitten um Verständnis.
Für ein besseres CoboCards, aber auch für ein besseres Internet.

What this means for CoboCards:
Supporting an 8 years old browser is hard work. To support the Internet Explorer 6 is much harder. You need a lot of time. Time which you can use for other things really better.
Hence, we will officially stop supporting Internet Explorer 6 in order to advance CoboCards more efficient, more economic and with new and better technologies.
That web giants like YouTube or Facebook has stopped their IE6 support shows that this way is not uncommon.
Therefore we recommend all CoboCards users who still use the Internet Explorer 6 one of the following options:
- Use Firefox, Opera, Safari or Google Chrome.
- Upgrade to Internet Explorer 8

A couple of weeks ago we told you that we support the young team of 2aid.org. Now they have started their water project. If you want to you can support 2aid as well.
How to do this? Two ways:
- You send a SMS with aid to 81190
and you support 2aid.org with 5 Euros.
- You visit Paket4Aid, enter your mobile phone number. You receive a SMS which you have to confirm. 4,83 € will go directly to 2aid.
To be honest, I don’t know if this service is just available in Germany. Please check with 2aid before sending any message.
5 Euros help to guarantee clean water for one person for 20 years. If you donate you will get a calendar as a gift (again, please check with organiser, if you live abroad). Additionally one person can win various prices if he twitters about this event.

Gestern waren wir auf dem „Tag der Integration“ in Aachen. Insgesamt nahmen 153 Unternehmen, Vereine und sonstige Organisationen mit Ständen an dieser Veranstaltung teil. Auch wir waren mit einem Stand dort vertreten.
Neben Persönlichkeiten aus der Stadt (wie z.B. der Bürgermeister) war auch der Minister für Generationen, Familie, Frauen und Integration des Landes NRW dort vertreten. Natürlich hielt er auch eine Rede. Mittendrin sagte er:
Auch das Team von CoboCards ist ein Vorbild in unserer Stadt! (Herr Laschet ist ursprünglich aus Aachen)
Huch, ein Minister, der uns in seiner Rede namentlich erwähnt und lobt? Super!
Er erzählte über den Gewinn des Wettbewerbs und dass viele bereits die Plattform nutzen.
Nach seiner Rede musste ich natürlich viele Hände schütteln und Gratulationen entgegennehmen. Später kam dann der Minister mit Herrn Schabram an unserem Stand vorbei und hat sich CoboCards ausführlich erklären lassen und noch einmal persönlichen zum Gewinn des start2grow Wettbewerbs gratuliert.
So eine Geste motiviert natürlich. Wir danken dem Minister für seine lobenden Worte und für seine Zeit. Auch den Organisatoren solch eines tollen Tages danken wir.
Aachen kann mehr!
Yesterday we were on a local event called „integration day“. 153 companies and NGO’s had the opportunity to present themselves. We also participated and tried to promote CoboCards.
Besides local VIP’s the minister for generations, family, women and integration of Northrhine-Westfalia was present and of course, he had a laudation. Somewhere in the middle he said:
„The team of CoboCards is a perfect example for our city“ (the minister himself is from Aachen)
What? The minister praises our project? Fantastic!
He continued talking about our success winning the „start2grow“ award and about the many many users of CoboCards he heard of.
Of course, after his speech I had to shake a lot of hands. Later he passed by at our exhibition stand and asked about the functionality of our tool.
Great motivationg gesture. We are thankful for his laudation and the time he spend with us. We won’t forget to thank the organisers of the event. Thank you all!
